The 1899 Hotel was first used in conjunction with the Castle Hot Springs Resort, as people would get off the train and spend the night at the hotel before riding 8 hours in a Stage Coach to the Resort. Originally working as the hotel's stage coach driver, John Shadrick Hardee bought the hotel after many years of working for Frank Murphy of the Castle Hot Springs Corporation at this Junction Hotel. The Hardee's owned and operated the property since the 1930's. Over the years it was a hotel & restaurant, general store, gas station, bar, and the post office.
